Manchester United’s hat-trick hero Anthony Martial has spoken about the advantages of playing with midfield duo Paul Pogba and Bruno Fernandes.
United recorded an impressive win over fellow Champions League chasers Sheffield United on Wednesday night, with Martial becoming the first United player to score three times in a single Premier League game since Robin van Persie back in 2013.
Pogba’s return from injury during the suspension of fixtures means that he was able to link up with January arrival Bruno Fernandes for the first time at Old Trafford and the duo played key roles in the 3-0 win at Old Trafford.
Speaking to MUTV after the game, Martial spoke of the work behind the scenes that goes into forming partnerships throughout the team.
“They’re top players,” he said of Fernandes and Pogba.“In training we practiced the link-up a lot, today was a very good game, we created a lot of chances.”
The game couldn’t have started better for United, with Martial turning in Marcus Rashford’s low cross with just seven minutes on the clock. The Frenchman added his and United’s second just before half-time before completing his hat-trick in the 74th minute.
It was the team’s first experience of playing behind closed doors at Old Trafford, but Martial knows that absent fans were supporting from afar.
“It was a little bit strange but I know they (the fans) are happy for me,” he said about there being no fans in the Stadium. “It’s good to play like this.”
United are next in action on Saturday when they face Norwich City at Carrow Road in the last eight of the FA Cup.
