Liverpool will not be able to secure their long-awaited Premier League title victory this weekend after all.
If Manchester City had lost to Arsenal this evening (Wednesday), then the Reds would have been able to wrap up the title with a win over local rivals Everton this weekend.
But with Man City’s comprehensive victory over the Gunners, it means Liverpool still need just six points to guarantee the trophy heads to Anfield.
The earliest the Reds can now win the league is at home to Crystal Palace in June 24.
Arsenal made a bright start to the match at the Etihad, but the game changed when Pablo Mari picked up an injury and was replaced by David Luiz.
In just 25 minutes, Luiz managed to make an error leading Raheem Sterling’s opening goal, as well as giving away a penalty which caused him to be sent off by referee Anthony Taylor.
