Leroy Sane makes long-awaited return for Manchester City's U23 side

Leroy Sane played 57 minutes for Manchester City's U23 side on Friday night in what was his first competitive action since suffering a serious knee injury six months ago.

The Manchester City winger damaged his knee ligaments in the Community Shield victory over Liverpool in August and has not been in action since.

Paul Harsley's side beat Arsenal 4-2 in the Premier League 2 at the Emirates - Sane did not score.

The Germany international has been in training since January but has not featured for the first team yet.

A surprise visitor in the form of former Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino was in the stands.

Like Pochettino, Sane's future at the Etihad Stadium is unclear after switching agents and ongoing interest from Bayern Munich.

City had wanted as much as £135million for the winger last summer but he will only have a year left on his contract when the next transfer window opens.

Pep Guardiola's side are reportedly interested in Bayern Munich winger Serge Gnabry and could look to use Sane as part of a swap deal to bring him in.

Gnabry has impressed for the Bundesliga giants this season, scoring 16 goals and supplying eight assists in 29 matches.

City have been monitoring the 24-year-old former Arsenal wideman and could look to make a swap deal with winger Sane, according to The Sun.
