Frank Lampard's side have already signed Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner, but they're not stopping there as they strive to get ahead of their Premier League rivals this summer.
Chelsea have made a point of doing their transfer business early, moving for Hakim Ziyech and and Timo Werner to ensure they go into the 2020/21 season from a position of strength.
However, despite the outlay of close to £100m on two attacking talents, the London club isn’t done.
Coming off a transfer ban with money to spend in a summer transfer market unlike any other, the Blues could yet use the opportunity to beef up other parts of their squad as they look to put themselves in a position to challenge for next year’s title.
Here are the latest transfer stories involving Frank Lampard’s team, who are currently focused on getting over the line in the league to secure Champions League football for next season.
Blues ‘outbid Real Madrid’ in Havertz chase
Bayer Leverkusen star Kai Havertz remains in high demand, and Spanish journalist Pipe Sierra claims Chelsea have outbid Real Madrid in an effort to win the race for the German.
According to Sierra , Chelsea have bid €88m, more than Madrid’s €80m offer for the 21-year-old, and are also prepared to offer Havertz more money.
The German has scored 12 league goals for Leverkusen this season, on top of the 17 he recorded in 2018/19, but his club is in danger of missing out on Champions League football next season.
With one game left in the Bundesliga, they are down in fifth, two points behind fourth-placed Borussia Monchengladbach. However, even a top-four finish is unlikely to lessen the interest in a player who scored his first senior Germany goal in October.
Chelsea approach Bundesliga star as potential Chilwell alternative
Chelsea reportedly remain keen on signing Leicester City and England left-back Ben Chilwell this summer, but have continued to keep tabs on other options.
These options are said to include Bayern Munich’s David Alaba, with The Athletic reporting that the Blues “explored the possibility” of bringing in the Austrian.
While Bayern were not keen on selling, according to The Athletic’s report, “the issue hasn’t been forgotten”.
Alaba has played more than 350 games for Bayern, mostly at left-back, but teenage star Alphonso Davies has been used in the position this season.
Czech prodigy on Blues’ radar amid RB Leipzig interest
Chelsea are believed to be monitoring 17-year-old Czech star Adam Hlozek, who is also on RB Leipzig’s radar as the German club targets reinforcements ahead of Timo Werner’s move to Stamford Bridge.
That’s according to Bild , via Sport Witness , with the German publication claiming the Sparta Prague talent is also “under scrutiny” from Borussia Dortmund.
Hlozek became Sparta’s youngest ever player when he made his debut last season at 16, and has a goal or assist every 258 league minutes across his career according to StatsBomb data on FBRef.com.
The winger also scored his first Europa League goal this season, netting against Trabzonspor in the third qualifying round.
He is expected to cost around €15m, and Bild claims he is joined on Leipzig’s shopping list by Milot Rashica of Werder Bremen and Red Bull Salzburg’s Hwang Hee-chan.
