Atletico Madrid 'set to make shock move for Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos'

Atletico Madrid are reportedly set to make a summer move for Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos in a bid to solve their problems in front of goal.

Diego Simeone's side have scored just 31 goals in 27 league games this season and are down in sixth place, 13 points adrift of leaders Barcelona

Atletico lost Antoine Griezmann to Barcelona last summer but spent £113 million on Portugual wonderkid Joao Felix and also signed striker Ivan Saponjic from Benfica.

But despite those arrivals and the firepower of Alvaro Morata and Diego Costa, Atletico have been gun-shy in the final third and believe Morelos could be the answer to their problems.

According to Diario AS. Simeone is confident of signing the striker for £10-15 million - considerably less money than it would cost to recruit a big name goalscorer from a top European club.

The Rangers star has become a fans favourite at Ibrox after scoring 77 goals in 136 games since joining the club from Finnish side HJK in 2017.

However, if he does join Atletico, Morelos will bring with him a reputation for indiscipline on the pitch that has yielded eight red cards in the last two seasons.

But having got the best out of another striker with an aggressive streak in Costa, Simeone will be confident of channelling Morelos' fury into goals.

At just 23, Morelos is also some distance away from his peak, meaning Atletico could sell him on for a sizeable fee in the future if he's a success at the club.
