Atletico Madrid are pursuing a summer move for Barcelona midfielder Ivan Rakitic, who is out of contract at the end of the season.
Rakitic has hinted before at leaving the Nou Camp after six years at the club when his existing deal expires.
A host of clubs are interested in a move for Rakitic, but Atletico appear to be ready to step up their interest in him.
Reports in Spain suggest the 31-year-old midfielder is already considering a move to Madrid.
Marca's report adds that Rakitic's representatives have been in contact with Atletico since last year.
Atletico do face competition to sign the midfielder not least from Manchester United who have been interested in him for some time.
It has been reported, however, that Rakitic wants to stay in Spain which would be a blow to United.
Rakitic joined Barcelona from Sevilla in 2014 for £14million. During his time at Barcelona, Rakitic has won 13 trophies, including four La Liga titles and one Champions League.
